Demographics are one of the ways to categorize people in Elvanto. They often directly relate to age or school year, but can also be things like ‘Young Families’.

Simple examples of demographics at work could be an adults demographic, a youth demographic, and a children’s demographic.

Utilizing demographics within the system makes it easier to filter through and report on the different areas of your account, showing only relevant results related to demographics when you need them. It’s also possible to lock down demographics within your Access Permissions (we’ll discuss this soon), meaning members with a demographic lockdown applied can only access information related to demographics they have access to.

It’s also possible to have sub-demographics within a demographic. For example, within the ‘Children’ demographic, you might have different age groups you want to list and report on in this area. These can then be defined for referencing at a later point.

Assigning Demographics

A great place to start with setting up demographics is with your children. We recommend creating sub-demographics for children that line up with how your children’s ministry works, as you can assign demographics/sub-demographics to your individual Check-in rooms. From here, any other demographics you’d like can simply line up with how your church further categorizes your adult members.

Demographics vs People Views

Before bunching people together into a demographic, ask yourself whether this demographic might be better off as a stored People View. People Views (see this page for a refresher) are for easy searches: people over the age of 50, for example. So, most churches do not need a Seniors Demographic.
